Art Shoppe of Plymouth: Gyataku Fishmaking
April 28 at 11:00 am–5:00 pm
One event on May 6, 2018 at 11:00am
The Art Shoppe of Plymouth will offer two of its most popular classes at no charge in honor of ArtWeek: Gyataku (Fish) Printmaking with Jessie Fries and Copper Wire Ring Making with Eddy Murray. Gyataku – a traditional method of printing fish; a practice that dates back as far back as mid-1800s. This nature printing was used by fishermen to record their catches which then became an art form. Jessie Fries will share this historical technique of fish rubbing/printing with real fish! There will be an opportunity for the public to try their hand at fish rubbing (Gyataku) using fish replicas, washable ink and rice paper supplied by Jessie Fries. No set times; this is a drop-in make and take opportunity for people while supplies last. All ages are welcome.
