Blood: Interactive Performance and Talk Back (Somerville)
October 8, 2016 at 7:00 pm–9:00 pm
Special for ArtWeek, join us for a talk back with the creative team of Blood after the matinee performance on Sunday, October 2 at the Wellesely College Shakespeare House and the evening performance on Saturday, October 8 at The Apartment. Additional performances of Blood will take place on Saturday, October 1, Friday, October 7 and Sunday, October 9 at 7:00PM.
Blood is a play of scenes about Shakespearean siblings that take place before their play has started or after it has ended – Kate and Bianca after they’re married; Sebastian and Viola the first morning in Illyria; Don John and Don Pedro after there’s been Much Ado About Nothing; Goneril, Reagan, and Cordelia before they face their father to bargain for their kingdoms. It explores the bonds and tensions between siblings we don’t get to see: the moments before they become the characters we know and as they try to move on after their stories are supposed to be over.
In keeping with the familiar nature of the play, Blood will be presented in familiar places – an apartment in Somerville that has welcomed us in and a house on Wellesley College’s campus where many Femme Vitale members first connected – two different kinds of homes. Audience members will be invited to engage with these spaces through staging that utilizes each room and to help us create and document the story by taking pictures throughout the show to add to our album of #bloodfamilyphotos.
