Ceramics as Art
April 28 at 2:00 pm–3:00 pm
Ceramics are not just a craft nor a hobby. Ceramic Sculpture is Art in every sense of the word. A piece of clay becomes a structure of form and color that emerges out of the Artist’s mind. This merger of structure, form and color creates powerful images as compelling as any painting, adding an element of dimensionality. This outdoor exhibit will consist of several ceramic masks created by Alan Kaplan and mounted outdoors and will explore various ways of seeing, creating and exemplifying different aspects of the human face and body as masks that embody our illusions and aspirations. On the 28th, Alan will give a talk to the public on how these pieces were created and what they represent to their creator and sculptor. The Exhibit is located on the main building at the Frog Pond on Boston Common.
The exhibit will be available to view all of ArtWeek from April 27th – May 6th.
