Concert: Castle of our Skins
October 1, 2016 at 12:30 pm–1:30 pm
Born out of the desire to foster cultural curiosity, Castle of our Skins celebrates Black artistry through music. From classrooms to concert halls, Castle of our Skins invites exploration into Black heritage and culture with performances at Roxbury Community College, the Museum of African American History, and the Roxbury YMCA among other locations in Boston. Drawing inspiration from the rich traditions in Black culture, this program will include string quartets written by celebrated Black composers, both past and present.
Castle of our Skins aims to empower citizens with cultural pride, cultural curiosity, and cultural harmony through and beyond music. Located next to the Map Room Café and with windows that create stunningly-framed views to the skyline of Copley Square, the Guastavino Room boasts one of the library’s striking ceiling tile patterns, designed by the man for whom the room was recently renamed – Spanish builder Rafael Guastavino (1842-1908).
