Crocheting With Wire
May 2, 2015 at 1:00 pm–1:30 pm
For ArtWeek, join jewelry artist Hanne Bernstein for a 30-minute demonstration in crocheting with sterling silver wire. Hanne will show you how a mesh is created and how it can be sculpted into various shapes. Questions are welcome. Hanne, a Danish native, has studied silversmithing and wire wrapping in the Boston area. In her work, she draws on her many years of working with fiber art. She is inspired by contemporary Scandinavian design and combines her historical heritage with a clean and modern look. Hanne incorporates the techniques of Viking knit and crochet in her jewelry and lets silver and gold wire interact with pearls and gemstones in a sculptural design. Hanne’s work will be on display during Needham Open Studios at Key Advantage Realty, 150 West Street, Needham, together with a large group of talented artists in various medias.
Needham Open Studios, now in its seventeenth year, features more than 45 artists exhibiting and demonstrating their art in 10 locations throughout the town of Needham. These artists work in a variety of media and styles, and each has a unique creative vision. They have exhibited in solo and group shows including juried shows, as well as galleries and museums across the country. The Needham Open Studios self-guided tour offers the opportunity to meet the artists, see how they work, talk with them about their techniques and creative processes, and take home original art. Our studios will be open on Saturday, May 2 from 10:00 until 4:00 and on Sunday, May 3 from noon until 4:00. Come see a world of art from the inside and see how art is made!
