Draw a Portrait of Shakespeare’s Heroines
September 30, 2016 at 12:00 pm–7:00 pm
Jungfrausis is pleased to present an art and music show to commemorate 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death. Our show will feature a selection of original antique prints depicting female characters from Shakespeare’s play, on view at 32 Harvard Street, Brookline, from September 30 – October 8.
Special for ArtWeek, audiences are invited to join the show by drawing their self-portrait as one of the heroines of Shakespeare. A wall will be prepared for displaying finished works. In addition to the show there will be two concerts presenting virtuoso music from Shakespeare’s time such as John Dowland, Francis Cutting, as well as from 20th century, inspired by Shakespeare’s play such as H. W. Henze’s Sonata No. 2 on Shakespearean Characters. Concerts will be held at 6:00 p.m. on September 30 and October 1.
One of the most interesting things in Shakespeare is his presentation of strong women, which was not common characteristics of a woman at the time. Under the theme of “Portrait of Shakespeare’s Heroine”, we will have chance to understand and observe the creation and interpretation of the character over the course of 400 years.
