Encaustic Painting Demonstration
April 30, 2016 at 11:00 am–5:00 pm
An event every day that begins at 11:00am, repeating until May 1, 2016
Learn about the ancient techniques of encaustic painting – also known as hot wax painting, which involves using heated beeswax to which color pigments are added. See how a style of painting that was used for the Fayum mummy portraits of Egypt in 100-300 AD is still used today. Special for ArtWeek, Lola Baltzell will demo her style of encaustic painting. Lola has had her work exhibited throughout New England and as far east as Shanghai.
This is the 30th anniversary of Brookline Open Studios. Take this opportunity to explore Brookline and meet artists who live or work in Brookline. You are invited into their studios, homes, or group venues. It is much more intimate than a gallery experience, as you can meet them face-to-face, see their work and learn about their process. Meet the staff of Brookline Arts Center and see their work. It is also an opportunity to purchase work directly from the artist. Studios are located throughout town and this event is an excellent way to meet new artists, connect with artists who you might already know and collect their work, and explore the different Brookline neighborhoods.
