In a first-ever collaboration, the Cape Symphony will partner with Cotuit Center for the Arts for its 2016-2017 season finale. “Every Good Boy Deserves Favor,” written by Tom Stoppard with music by André Previn is a rarely performed work for 6 actors and 70 musicians. The piece explores the themes of Freedom of Expression. The performance is also one of the centerpieces of the ArtSpring Cape Cod Festival. This collaboration is a first, and both organizations are excited to have the opportunity to illuminate our community through a powerful and rare work.

Special for ArtWeek, join us for an interactive talk-back after the Saturday night concert. Audience members can ask Jung-Ho questions. Those interested in hearing more about the collaboration, join us for pre-concert talks before the other concert presentation on Sunday, May 7 at 3:00pm. This collaboration/presentation is also a part of the ArtSpring Cape Cod.

About “Every Good Boy Deserves Favor”: “Every Good Boy Deserves Favour” is a stage play by Tom Stoppard with music by André Previn. In addition to the six actors in the piece, the play also requires a full orchestra, which not only provides music throughout the play but also forms an essential part of the action. The play criticises the Soviet practice of treating political dissidence as a form of mental illness. The play concerns a dissident, Alexander Ivanov, who is imprisoned in a Soviet mental hospital, from which he will not be released until he admits that his statements against the government were caused by a (non-existent) mental disorder.
