Making Chain Maille Demonstration

On Saturday & Sunday, May 2 & 3, studios all over the town of Needham, MA will be open to visitors. At the Pat Brazill Chain Maille Jewelry Studio at 12 noon on both days, Pat Brazill will show how to make “European 4-in-1 Chain maille. This is a weave that is known to almost everyone – it’s what knights used to wear in battle.
This demo is from everyone from youngsters to adults; however pliers & metal will only be used by those ages 12 and up. (For under 12 there will be a project using bigger rings). Chain Maille is made from combining ring together in various repeating patterns and is a craft that is experiencing newfound popularity.
Visitors to the studio will also experience the behind-the-scene secrets of how jump rings are made, how chain maille is work-hardened and made shiny, and can purchase her handmade jewelry.

Needham Open Studios, now in its seventeenth year, features more than 45 artists exhibiting and demonstrating their art in 10 locations throughout the town of Needham. These artists work in a variety of media and styles, and each has a unique creative vision. They have exhibited in solo and group shows including juried shows, as well as galleries and museums across the country. The Needham Open Studios self-guided tour offers the opportunity to meet the artists, see how they work, talk with them about their techniques and creative processes, and take home original art. Our studios will be open on Saturday, May 2 from 10:00 until 4:00 and on Sunday, May 3 from noon until 4:00. Come see a world of art from the inside and see how art is made!
