Mattapan Speaks Jazz
May 1, 2016 at 2:00 pm–6:00 pm
JazzBoston and the William E. Carter Post, the oldest African American veterans’ post in the United States, partner to present a multilingual, multi-stylistic celebration of jazz and the Mattapan community. A new jazz tradition in the making, this all-ages event returns by popular demand after an enthusiastic reception from members of the community and others during Jazz Week 2015. Returning musicians from last spring’s lineup include pianist Frank Wilkins with his WeJazzUp band. Joining them will be special guests, to be announced.
Step up to the mic for the Vocal Showcase, a WeJazzUp specialty, or bring your instrument and participate in the closing jam session. Between sets, check out the exhibit of photos, medals, and other historic artifacts from the Post’s archives.
JazzBoston congratulates the Carter Post and its Commander William Netter on providing a new home for jazz in Mattapan Square.
Be sure to join us for other Jazz Week 2016 events as we celebrate jazz of all styles all over Greater Boston from April 22 to May 1. To see the full calendar of Jazz Week events, please visit www.jazzboston.org.
A ticketing link for this event will be posted soon – stay tuned!
