Reception and Artists’ Talk: Searching by the Salisbury
October 1, 2016 at 5:00 pm–8:00 pm
Downtown Brockton’s newest exhibition space, The Gallery at Enso Flats, presents “Searching by the Salisbury”, an exhibition of artwork by two local artists, John Mahoney and Virginia Mahoney. Both artists will be on-hand to discuss their works and approaches throughout the reception, with artists’ talks beginning at 6:00PM. This is the first event of ArtWeek Brockton (fall edition). Free and open to the public.
The artists, who met in graduate school at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan, work in separate studios within their Brockton home, near the Salisbury Plain River. John’s painting/collage works explore the challenges and conflicts we face when questioning knowledge, personal beliefs and the unknown. Using objects and a cast of characters, he creates visionary spaces of clashing images from personal histories in an attempt to uncover new meaning. Virginia’s ceramic/mixed media works are constructed from shards of the artist’s past works and copper linear elements. These objects evoke new narratives and echo memories, thoughts, and intuitive connections to the previous work.
