Sculptural Weaving Talk + Demo
May 4, 2016 at 6:30 pm–9:00 pm
Artisan’s Aslyum is a 40,000 square foot community workshop located in Somerville and home to many innovators! Join us on May 4th for a fiber arts talk and demonstration with sculptural weaver and member Jeanne Flanagan. As this is a part of our Fibers Arts Night, bring your projects to discuss and create with the community!
About Jeanne: Jeanne has always been making things with her hands. With a mother who taught sewing and owned a marine canvas shop and an engineer father who built their house, barn and other buildings, Jeanne is always finding adventure in exploring both materials and structure. In 2010, Jeanne discovered sculptural weaving and has been almost exclusively working in triaxial mad-weave since then. The weave moves in three directions simultaneously so the corners create 60 degree angles. This means you cannot create a box, but allows the formation of natural shapes.
For ArtWeek, some of Jeanne’s larger pieces will be on display in our social area just before her talk and sculptural weaving demonstration. After the presentation, the weekly Fiber Arts Work Night will be available to those who attend the talk, so bringing projects is encouraged.
Space is limited, so please register early. This is a free event for Members and Guests, with a suggest donation of $10 to support our work.
