The Flawed Beauty Project
October 6, 2016 at 6:00 pm–8:00 pm
Young photographer Valerie Staja Anselme, 25 years old, takes her turn at studying what beauty is by first looking at what flaws are and how they affect a persons view of themselves. She invites people (men, women, trans) to be photographed and interviewed. She welcomes people to view her work in hopes of starting dialogue, and hopefully, this inspires other.
Special for ArtWeek, there will be a video presentation and talk on October 6 from 6:00 – 8:00PM. The photography exhibit will be on view from September 1 – October 31.
In our society perfection in beauty, for men and women, is almost a must. It’s what we see each day on TV, newsstands, and in social media. It’s important that we learn to love what is ours. Even if it doesn’t look like our perception of perfection. Doors of self-love and healing open when embrace what we believe is our flaw. The Flawed Beauty Project is a thought-provoking photo and video project that shows people revealing and embracing their flaws for all they are – and to inspire others to do the same. Through an exhibit of photographs we see these people. Through the film we learn about these people.
