April 30, 2018 at 7:30 pm9:30 pm

Roxbury Community College 1234 Columbus Ave Roxbury Crossing, MA 02120 United States

In the spirit of Elma Lewis, join ArtsEmerson, Roxbury Community College, Origination Cultural ArtsCenter and the National Center for Afro-American Artists for a Welcome to Boston Cast Party to celebrate the return of Step Afrika! to Boston. This special, free night of performances from local steppers, hoofers, dancers and painters honors the company’s arrival in grand fashion, and kicks off their run May 3-6 at the Emerson Cutler Majestic Theatre of The Migration: Reflections on Jacob Lawrence. As one of the top ten African-American dance companies in the U.S, Step Afrika! celebrates the paths of the brave men and women who left the American South searching for better opportunities in their most recent production. Meet and greet the cast and community, enjoy performances from some of the best local artists in Boston, and get fired up to catch The Migration: Reflections on Jacob Lawrence.

Welcome to Boston cast parties are a signature program of ArtsEmerson rooted in the tradition of visionary arts leader, humanist and Emerson College alumna, Ms. Elma Lewis and co-hosted by variety of community partners. While being feted by performances from Boston’s finest poets, vocalists, dancers, actors and entertainers, this warm and vibrant event presents our artists to the community before seeing them perform on stage.
